This is Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo wearing a cute ribbed knit alice band hat in a scene from an I Love Lucy episode on the Newport home set. I am not offering a knitting pattern at present but it looks very easy to knit in a simple rib stitch with contrast stripe border.
You need:
- A couple of balls of double knit yarn for the main color
- Contrasting yarn in two colors for the stripes.

You need to cast on a number of stitches wide enough to fold over a metal headband in the front and knit it long enough to reach to the back of the head then gather up the stitches and attach a thick braid of knitting yarn at the back and you have an easy to make vintage style hat for the holidays – great as a gift or to keep.
There is a similar style vintage hat on eBay this week that gives a good idea how to shape the back of the hat.
