A Westclox “Big Ben” alarm clock is used for the opening establishing shot in the I Love Lucy Series 2  episode No Children Allowed.  The time is 2:40 am and an exhausted Lucy is up trying to calm her crying baby.

The logo is clearly visible in the first scene -the words Westclox Big Ben can be seen on the dial.   Later the clock appears again to show the time is now 3:00 am but now the Logo is covered. as seen in the screen capture below.

Ansonia Clock Like Lucy’s

Lucille Ball at home – her antique clock on the mantel.

I see a similar model  to Lucille Ball’s antique clock on eBay this week:

Lucy had a clock just like this one – click the picture above to go to the ebay listing.
The Ansonia “Rainbow” ceramic clock by Royal Bonn was produced in several colors. The photos showing Lucy’s clock are B/W so we can only guess at the color.

Coffee Grinder on eBay

Also on eBay is a B.O. Garantie coffee grinder similar in form to the one in Lucy Ricardo’s kitchen – the measurements and form factor are identical, including the drawer handle, except it is painted differently and Lucy’s had a painted ivy motif on the front.

I Love Lucy Props in other Productions

Military prints on Hogans Heroes – as seen on I Love Lucy – another Desilu production

Hogan’s Heroes was a Desilu production so it would not be surprising to find a familiar prop. Above in a scene from Klink’s quarters is a familiar looking horse print as seen  on I Love Lucy in the Ricardo’s apartment.

The sceen cap above is from Harper (1966) a movie starring Paul Newman. Do you recognize this statue from the LA episodes of I Love Lucy? It looks like a horse and wagon statue that was seen near the entrance door of the Ricardo’s apartment when they go to Hollywood.

Below is another scene from the same movie with a banjo clock that reminds me of a similar one in the Ricardo’s NY apartment.

Olde Thompson Ivy Salt Box seen on eBay

On eBay this week is a vintage Olde Thompson Salt Box in the Imperial Ivy design. The ivy design was also featured on the Olde Thompson cruet seen on I Love Lucy. The Ivy salt box was not seen on the show but there was an Olde Thompson salt box in the same shape on the wall near the kitchen sink.

The Telechron Dorm Electric Alarm Clock with the front cover removed on I Love Lucy

In the Season 5 episode of I Love Lucy entitled Lucy Hates to Leave Lucy is awake at night worrying about the move to their new house in the country. On the bedroom shelf there is a hexagonal alarm clock.

The shape and dial of the clock is an exact match for the white dial verson of the Telechron “Dorm” alarm clock. A closer look at the clock in the screen capture reveals it to be missing the cover in front of the dial.  With the cover removed we notice clips at edges of the clock face to keep it in place. Pictured below is a black version of the same clock on Etsy (US) and from the photo we see how the window in front of the dial is curved and catches the light and would be too reflective for the studio lights- a practical reason for removing the front cover on set.
