Familiar to fans of the early I Love Lucy shows, an ornate framed version of this print was seen on the back wall of the Ricardo’s livingroom. It is by Maurice Utrillo and the title is “La Rue Du Mont Cenis” signed 1922 Maurice Utrillo

This Maurice Utrillo lithograph print entitled Restaurant Au Mont Cenis (1922) is like the one seen on I Love Lucy in the Ricardo’s livingroom, except it appears to be a smaller sized print. The print on I Love Lucy was 26″ x 21″ and the smaller print image size is usually seen at around 11″ x 14″ unframed.

A framed print of this 1922 scene by French artist Utrillo was usually seen on the back wall of the Ricardo’s livingroom on I Love Lucy. However I spotted it on the bedroom wall in the same ornate frame in at least one episode as seen on the above screen grab.
Typically it is seen on the living room wall.
The original vintage print reproduction of a 1922 Maurice Utrillo lithograph is offered on eBay this week. I have only seen a few of these on offer since I started this blog so we may not see another like it for some time.

Vintage prints of the 1922 Utrillo picture seen on I Love Lucy seem to be quite rare. There is one on offer online CLICK HERE to see it – still available as of Oct 9 2015 – I don’t know the size.

I have just returned from a trip to Paris with my daughter Deirdre who is a photographer. We spent some time in Montmartre which is the setting for many of Utrillo‘s paintings including “The Restaurant on Mont Cenis” a print of which is seen on the I Love Lucy living room set. I will follow up with some pictures I took of the location. (Le Consulat bistro seen in the picture above was the subject of another of Utrillos’s paintings).

On eBay currently is a vintage painting that appears to be copy of Utrillo’s painting “Restaurant au Mont Cenis” even including the signature. This is the screen-used original Utrillo print “Restaurant au Mont Cenis” we can see on so many episodes of “I love Lucy” It was sold at auction on July 30, 2013 by PROFILES IN HISTORY for $8,000. It is a print from an original painting of a street in Montmartre, Paris, by Maurice Utrillo, a native of Montmartre, who painted it in 1922. It is interesting to compare it to the vintage postcard circa 1908, photographed from an almost identical vantage point
