Another Margo Alexander Print

Margo Alexander Print over the fireplace
Margo Alexander Print over the fireplace

This time we are looking  a pair of Margo Alexander prints that have each occupied a top center position over the fireplace in the Ricardo’s 2nd apartment on I Love Lucy. Other times we have seen them on the back wall on either side of a large landscape picture.

This Margo Alexander studio print  is a new addition to the blog,  it is a rural winter scene with people skating on a frozen river. The second picture indicated by the arrow below  depicts a summer season and is one we looked at in a previous post :  http://www.50slucy.com/margo-alexander-print-on-i-love-lucy.html

Here we see the other of the pair that has also been seen above the fireplace in the same position.

Below is a view of the same mantelpiece with the second picture in place.

Here we see the companion print swapped in to the same position in this publicity still

Both pictures are by Margo Alexander and are the same size.

Here is another Margo Alexander print seen on the I Love Lucy set. This one is seen in the early episodes as one of three landscape prints on the back wall of the living room set. Later, after the Ricardo’s move to the bigger apartment it can occasionally be seen above the mantel alcove over the livingroom fireplace, as seen in the publicity picture below

Lucy’s Margo Alexander Schoolhouse Print

framedprint
Here is a mid century print by folk artist Margo Alexander of a little red schoolhouse that I have only seen on the show from the point of view of the screen capture above where Lucy is on a ledge outside the window of the Ricardo’s apartment. Lucy and Ricky’s Landscape Art Print

ricardos-livingroom-print Here we refer to a framed print seen above the mantelpiece in the screen capture  from the episode “Ricardos Change Apartments” in which Lucy tries to convince Ricky to let them move to a bigger apartment.  This is a busy folk art print that seems to add to the effect Lucy creates when she fills the room with stuff to convince Ricky their apartment is too small.  At first glance the picture resembles  a paint by numbers creation. this is because the artist Margo Alexander was known for her gouache paintings in the style of a tapestry.

Margo Alexander’s  original medium was gouache painted in a flat tapestry like finish  as seen in her colorful farm scenes and country landscapes.  Her original folk art gouache paintings and serigraph silk screen prints are seen on the market occasionally. She also painted people and murals.
