Profiles in History auction of an original Frank Serratoni Framed print from the set of I Love Lucy

Profiles in History auction catalog for their December 11th Hollywood Auction 96 lists an original wall art from I Love Lucy. Fans of the show will recognize the landscape that appears on the back wall of the Ricardo’s living room (it replaced the Utrillo print when Lucy got her new furniture). It is a lithograph print by Frank Serratoni. The illustration above is taken from the auction catalog.

Lucy and the Loving Cup: On the Subway

Lucy on the Subway with Loving Cup on her head under a scarf

In the screen capture from the I Love Lucy episode Lucy and the Loving Cup which aired on 7 January 1957, Lucy is wearing the thinly disguised Loving Cup on her head as she travels the subway. On the wall is a Red Cross Disaster Relief poster and an NYC Subway map. Below are pasted in vintage color versions.

I Love Lucy: Framed Ballet Prints

LUCY VISITS GRAUMAN’S #128 S5, 10.3.55
After Lucy gets her foot caught in the pail of cement at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, she hides from Ricky over at the Mertz’s hotel room. On the back wall above Fred and Ethel’s beds we see two framed ballerina prints.
They are done by painter Cydney Grossman, entitled, “Between the Acts” on the left and “Curtain Call” on the right.

This Maurice Utrillo lithograph print entitled Restaurant Au Mont Cenis (1922) is like the one seen on I Love Lucy in the Ricardo’s livingroom, except it appears to be a smaller sized print. It is offered as an original item from the movie Night of the Living Dead (1968) at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Night-Of-The-Living-Dead-Framed-Maurice-Utrillo-Movie-Prop-Horror-Home-theater-/131957171297
The print on I Love Lucy was 26″ x 21″ and the smaller print image size is usually seen at around 11″ x 14″ unframed.
Details of the print from I Love Lucy in this post:

Note: There are a couple of other prints of this picture on ebay at present – one has water damage, another one looks darker in color than is usual and is overpriced in comparison with others sold recently. Continue reading Utrilllo Print from Night of the Living Dead 1968 offered on eBay

A framed print of this 1922  scene by French artist Utrillo was usually seen on the back wall of the Ricardo’s livingroom on I Love Lucy.  However I spotted it on the bedroom wall in the same ornate frame in at least one episode as seen on the above screen grab.

Typically it is seen on the living room wall.

Georges Braque Print on I Love Lucy

Georges Braque print Still Life With Lemons seen on the wall on I Love Lucy

Here we see a framed print of Georges Braque‘s Still Life With Jug and Lemons seen on the wall on I Love Lucy. I dont recall seeing this print on any of the other episodes. Georges Braque (1882 – 1963) produced hand signed lithographs of this print and this could be one of them.  Braque worked closely with Picasso  and together they developed  the cubist style of painting. The image below is of a lithograph signed by the artist on offer at this link:  http://www.masterworksfineart.com/artist/georges-braque/nature-morte-avec-un-pichet-et-citrons-still-life-with-pitcher-and-lemons-c-1950/

Pair of Cavalry Prints on I Love Lucy

Framed Cavalry Prints on I Love Lucy

In a previous post we looked at  small military prints in the livingroom on I Love Lucy. The pictures on the show are mid-century framed reproductios from an old book on broad sword exercises with some color added. The vintage framed prints are hard to find. However I found that the original book is archived online  so you could print out some to frame. Below is a scan of the page showing   pictures from the book like those seen above in the screen grab from the show.
