A framed print of this 1922 scene by French artist Utrillo was usually seen on the back wall of the Ricardo’s livingroom on I Love Lucy. However I spotted it on the bedroom wall in the same ornate frame in at least one episode as seen on the above screen grab.
Typically it is seen on the living room wall.

These statues by California Pottery artist Stewart B. McCulloch are up for sale on eBay this week. The pair of similar statues on the I Love Lucy mantelpiece are identical in form with differences in the painting – because they were hand painted no two are painted exactly alike. There are variations in the colors used and in the floral patterns on the garments. For fans of the I Love Lucy show they are much sought after, and collectors of the mid-century 50’s era and California pottery will be interested in these.
On the Ricardo’s mantel on the show a pair of these statues were seen throughout most of the series until the Ricardos moved to the country in the final shows.
Here we see a framed print of Georges Braque‘s Still Life With Jug and Lemons seen on the wall on I Love Lucy. I dont recall seeing this print on any of the other episodes. Georges Braque (1882 – 1963) produced hand signed lithographs of this print and this could be one of them. Braque worked closely with Picasso and together they developed the cubist style of painting. This time we are looking a pair of Margo Alexander prints that have each occupied a top center position over the fireplace in the Ricardo’s 2nd apartment on I Love Lucy. Other times we have seen them on the back wall on either side of a large landscape picture.
This Margo Alexander studio print is a new addition to the blog, it is a rural winter scene with people skating on a frozen river. Here is an interesting find, an I Love Lucy Desilu prop, seen as far back as the first season, spotted in the 1968 movie Yours, Mine and Ours, starring Lucille Ball, more evidence that some of the original ILL props were reused in later productions.
A closer detail shot tells us it is a match for one of a pair the Borghese oval fashion prints over the fireplace on I Love lucy
The picture on the right is a match!

Framed Cavalry Prints on I Love Lucy
In a previous post we looked at small military prints in the livingroom on I Love Lucy. The pictures on the show are mid-century framed reproductios from an old book on broad sword exercises with some color added. The vintage framed prints are hard to find. However I found that the original book is archived online so you could print out some to frame. Below is a scan of the page showing pictures from the book like those seen above in the screen grab from the show.

Seen on eBay this week a pair of vintage Charleton mantel lusters similar to those seen on the piano on I Love Lucy – the shape and make is the same but the painting style and prisms are not an exact match however the design is similar.

Seen on eBay this week – Charleton Mantel Lusters by the company that made the pair on I Love Lucy.
Lucy’s mantel lustres were painted differently but these are the same shape.

Previously we looked at evidence of a dulling substance in use on on one of the mantel statues on I Love lucy. An anti-reflective coating is used when needed to reduce glare for the cameras. Above on the left is a instance from Little Ricky Learns to Play Drums where the cream colored Olde Thompson ivy cruet has been darkened sufficiently to appear gray in tone. The picture to the right is from an earlier episode where the same cruet appears lighter.
Here is an example of the same make Olde Thompson cruet in its original state.
