Lucy’s Christmas: Santa in Sleigh

The Ricardo’s Christmas mantel display with Santa in sleigh

Lucy and Ricky’s Christmas decorations included a little Santa and Sleigh on the mantel. I see some examples from the era on eBay this week. These are hard to find pieces that have survived the years – click on the pictures to go to the eBay listings.

A similar Ssleigh on a curved base

Above is a sleigh seen on eBay with five plastic reindeer – a single Rudolph in front – similar to the set on I Love Lucy except the base is different.
Below are a couple of similar looking alternatives:

Ricky and Lucy’s Cigarette Box

Cigarette Box on Lucy and Ricky’s cofffee table on I Love Lucy

I see a  trinket/cigarette box on eBay very like the cigarette box on the coffee table on I Love Lucy – it is chalkware by Borghese – the screen grab above is from Lucy misses the Mertzes. We cannot tell the color of the  box from the b/w episodes, but we do have a clue from a color movie clip taken by a member of the audience in an early episode and the box appears to be a light color perhaps similar to the box below.

The Box in the center seen on B/W and color.

Set of Canisters similar to Lucy Ricardo’s

Nesco canisters seen on eBay recently
The above set of three metal kitchen canisters are in the same design as those seen in Lucy Ricardo’s kitchen however the canister set seen in the b/w screen capture from the show below appear to be a darker color than the white ones seen here. Lucy’s kitchen had a set of four canisters and a matching square bread box all with the the same floral motif.

Read more about the original Nesco design in this post.

I Love Lucy Small Carriage Prints

In the screen capture above from the charm school spisode of I Love Lucy we notice two small framed prints high up over the mantel. These automotive prints of early carriages are examples of framed prints that were sold in sets in the mid century era.  Examples of these are often seen on eBay.  Below is a closer look at the details as seen on the show.

Seen on the Left above the mantel
Seen on the Right above the mantel
Also seen on the back wall below the Utrillo print

The same two pictures along with a matching third print were also seen below the Maurice Utrillo picture on the back wall in other episodes.

Lucy and the Loving Cup: On the Subway

Lucy on the Subway with Loving Cup on her head under a scarf

In the screen capture from the I Love Lucy episode Lucy and the Loving Cup which aired on 7 January 1957, Lucy is wearing the thinly disguised Loving Cup on her head as she travels the subway. On the wall is a Red Cross Disaster Relief poster and an NYC Subway map. Below are pasted in vintage color versions.
